For the first time in history, there will be money on the line for the winner of an Open announcement. Tonight at Diablo CrossFit, Ben Smith, Jason Carroll and Sean Sweeney will take on 20.4. The winner will take home $2,000 while 2nd place will earn $1,000. Third place will get nothing.
The prize money has been donated by Toyota Walnut Creek. Sean Woodland and Tommy Marquez will be calling the action on the live stream. The live announcement is sponsored by SugarWOD, Assault Bike and Rogue Fitness.
Through three workouts, Sweeney holds the lead over Smith and Carroll. Sweeney is in 12th overall. Smith has improved significantly after 20.1 and now sits in 33rd. Carroll sits back in 74th in the world.
Sweeney is above the Top 20 cut line while Smith is within 28 points of the cut line. Carroll will need two very strong scores the rest of the way in, but is definitely still in contention.
