Athletes, coaches and the community are still trying to process Lazar Djukic’s passing during the swim portion of Event 1 at Marine Creek Lake and the days following. In the hours after Thursday morning’s tragedy, CrossFit officials, athletes and coaches convened inside Dickies Arena to determine the path forward.

Details of the closed-door meeting are not fully known, but we do know that several athletes walked out of the meeting shortly after it began when Dave Castro said it was the intention of CrossFit to move forward with the competition. However, the meeting continued for hours following that where athletes expressed their opinions on how to proceed.

Ultimately, the decision to continue to the competition was made. Eight women, four men and and two teams withdrew from the competition.

The 2024 CrossFit Games resumed Friday morning following a moment of silence for Lazar Djukic.

On Sunday afternoon, after 10 scored events, Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr earned her 7th CrossFit Games title and James Sprague won on the men’s side.
