236 National Champions in 2019…How Many Can Repeat in 2020?

The deadline to submit scores for 20.1 is just hours away. And with that we will be able to start analyzing the leaderboard. Last year, CrossFit crowned 236 National Champions from around the world. The National Champions ranged from some of the top athletes in the world to some athletes who are forging a new era in countries where CrossFit is just starting to take hold.

The day before the CrossFit Games began several months ago, CrossFit Founder Greg Glassman spoke to the media and gave his perspective on the new Games format and the season in general. Glassman said he was more than pleased at how the season developed and that he looks forward to see how these “developing” countries improve over the coming years.

Glassman’s theory is that these countries will start to improve because the athlete who placed 2nd in the country will try harder to dethrone 1st place. And by watching the National Champions compete in Madison will fuel competition within each country. Places like the United States or Iceland or Australia can only improve marginally, but countries like Mozambique, Macedonia and many others have a large runway for improvement.

So it begs the question…how many of the 236 National Champions will be able to retain their crown in 2020?

That’s where you come in. We are running a contest on Instagram where you guess the number of repeat National Champions. Check out our post (below) for details on how to enter. If you correctly guess the number of repeat champions, you will be entered for a chance to win a $236 Rogue Fitness Gift Card.

That’s right, once CrossFit verifies the leaderboard and the National Champions are announced, we will pick one person who correctly guessed how many athletes will be 2x National Champs!
