How much do I want to suffer? That’s the question athletes asked themselves before 3-2-1 Go! American Amanda Barnhart and Australian rookie Matt McLeod suffered and it showed as they flopped across the finish line following the final 172-ft. sled push.
Barnhart, who was a frontrunner to challenge Tia-Clair Toomey this year, moved at the right time, winning the Sprint Couplet with a time of 1:29, six seconds faster than second-place finisher Colleen Fotsch. The event win vaulted her up five spots from seventh to second overall following the win. Toomey staved off Kristin Holte and Kari Pearce, but still only leads by a narrow 13 points.
McLeod squeaked by with his first career event win. The 26-year-old edged out Games veteran Noah Ohlsen by 1.1 seconds and is sitting in 16th overall.
Event 5 should be forthcoming. Stay tuned to The Barbell Spin for end-to-end coverage of the CrossFit Games!
