Camille Leblanc-Bazinet is going to the 2019 CrossFit Games. But the 2014 CrossFit Games champion will not be competing as an individual. Instead she will be competing on a team.
Leblanc-Bazinet will be joining Jessica Griffith, Alec Smith and Cody Mooney. The three have already won a Sanctional event, the Wodapalooza CrossFit Festival and earned an invite to the CrossFit Games.
Leblanc-Bazinet will be replacing Jamie Greene on Team ROMWOD/WIT after Greene elected to compete as an individual after becoming New Zealand’s National Champion in the Open. Per the CrossFit Games rulebook, a team that has won a Sanctional can use its alternate spots (one male and one female) to backfill teammates who elect to compete as an individual.
The addition of Leblanc-Bazinet now explains the her score on 19.5. Leblanc-Bazinet ended up posting a score of just one rep on the final workout of the 2019 CrossFit Open. By this time it was clear that Greene would qualify as an individual and the remaining ROMWOD/WIT team would need to find an alternate. It is not clear who will be the team’s male alternate.
The invitation process to the Games this year puts some stress on teams with athletes who also qualified to the Games as an individual. Immediately following the deadline for individuals to accept their invite to the Games, teams must declare their intention along with a filled roster. With little time to make a decision, Team ROMWOD/WIT began working on its roster.
