Case Closed: CrossFit Will Not Adjust Cale Layman’s Open Scores

In Dave Castro’s Week in Review published today, Castro announced that Cale Layman’s CrossFit Open scores will remain and no action will be taken. The announcement comes following questions from the community regarding the validity of his scores that resulted in him taking 5th place overall in the 2025 CrossFit Open.

“We have investigated further with Cale as well as additional sources within the community,” explained Castro. “While we could not get the proof we wanted, we also could not disprove the validity of the submissions. Therefore, we will not be invalidating his times for the Open and the leaderboard will receive no changes.”

For those who may not have been following the story, questions surrounded whether Layman had actually done the CrossFit Open workouts in the hours after the Mayhem Classic in April. In that competition, Layman finished in last place on all five of the events.

For a full rundown of the events that transpired, check out my article written in April.

With that, the 2025 CrossFit Open leaderboard will remain unchanged and no penalties have been assessed to his scores.

Case closed.
