“This isn’t an official statement, but this will probably be the case. We are not going to have cuts at the Games this year,” said Dave Castro today in his 4/28/25 Week in Review.
Castro explained that with the smaller fields (30 men, 30 women and 20 teams) it gives him more flexibility with the programming such that he is “leaning towards” not cutting the field this year.
If Castro ends up not changing his mind it would be the first time the individual field has not been cut since 2018. In previous years Castro (and Adrian Bozman) have made the decision to cut the field throughout the weekend to give more flexibility within the programming, particularly on Sunday, the final day of the competition.
As for the programming itself, Castro said he had a few good sessions this past weekend and even had an athlete test the first event of the CrossFit Games, in which he said, “it played out really well.”
He added that 75-80% of the workouts are “penciled” in and is now moving into the testing phase and might need to make some of the workouts heavier.
And before he moved into answering questions, Castro ended with, “I think this year we’re going to experiment with getting all 30 individuals through all the workouts and all 20 teams through the workouts.”
The 2025 CrossFit Games will be inside the MVP Arena in Albany, New York, on August 1-3. Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster.
