The 2019 CrossFit Games begin Thursday morning at 9am, but athletes will not be hearing 3, 2, 1, go! Instead, this year’s Games will start with the Opening Ceremony. At 9am on Thursday morning, the Opening Ceremony will take place in North Park.
The event is open to all ticket holders. For those who want to watch, get in line early as all Festival ticket holders will have access to the North Park, which is open seating.
With the Opening Ceremony beginning in the morning, it means that all athletes will still be in the competition before the individual field is reduced to the top 75 athletes.
This news also brings the daily schedule into question. Last year’s Opening Ceremon were on Thursday night and lasted 35 minutes. That was also with a much smaller field than this year. With over close to 150 countries represented at the Games this year, this year could take much longer.
Could this mean we won’t see athletes begin Event 1 until 11am or even later? If so, Thursday might only have one or two events. And if you read the daily schedule, it says it “will begin at 9 a.m. with individuals and conclude with teams, followed by the Athlete Ceremony.” With the Opening Ceremony moving to start the day, it appears individuals will begin their event (or events) and then the teams will begin.
