CrossFit has hired Dr. Mark Sakr as the new Medical Director for the CrossFit Games. The role was filled after the search began in December to replace Dr. Michael Ray who had held the role previously.
As Medical Director, Dr. Sakr will be responsible for developing medical strategies, coordinating medical staffing and ensuring compliance with medical standards and regulations as it relates to the CrossFit Games. Dr. Sakr will also collaborate with the CrossFit Safety Advisory Board, oversee on-site triage at the CrossFit Games, and create readiness and emergency response plans for the Games.

Dr. Sakr has held numerous role within sports organizations throughout the years. According to LinkedIn, he is currently the Director of Medical Services and Head Team Physician at the University of Arizona. He is also the Medical Director and Team Physician for the USA Rugby team.
It is unclear if he will continue those roles in addition to his responsibilities as the CrossFit Games Medical Director.
Dr. Sakr has also previously been the Head Team Physician for Georgia State University and Robert Morris University.
As for his experience with CrossFit, it does not appear that Dr. Sakr has ever registered for the CrossFit Open.
