It has been nearly four years since Dre Strohm has stepped onto the competition floor. That was back in 2019 when he was on the Mayhem Freedom team alongside Chyna Cho, Tasia Percevecz and, of course, Rich Froning. It’s been even longer since Strohm has competed as an individual.
But this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, Strohm competed in a local competition as he looks to get back into the competitive arena. Strohm competed at the 615 Throwdown at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds this past weekend.
The two-day competition featured seven scored events in which Strohm won two events and never finished outside the top 5. Strohm finished with 18 points, two ahead of Brandon Smith who took 2nd overall.
After taking a break from competitive CrossFit for the past few years, Strohm made it to Quarterfinals last year where he finished 173rd in North America. It appears, however, that the former Mayhem Freedom teammate will be making a serious run at the Games in 2023.
Following the competition, Strohm made his first post on Instagram since 2019 where he shared that he looking to make a run at the 2023 CrossFit Games as an individual. Competing out of Tennessee, Strohm will be in the North America East region, which is undeniably the deepest region loaded with CrossFit Games veterans.
Strohm competed at Regionals as an individual six consecutive years from 2013 to 2018. His best finish was 10th overall, an accomplishment he achieved twice – in 2016 and 2018.
Now as he eyes getting back into the elite field, Strohm will face a field featuring the likes of Roman Khrennikov, Jeff Adler, Jayson Hopper, Saxon Panchik, Noah Ohlsen, Travis Mayer and more. It will not be an easy feat to make a comeback in the competitive North America East region, but don’t count out a guy who’s been at Mayhem for years.
