The Atlantic Regional begins this morning in West Palm Beach, Florida. For Emily Bridgers, it will be her last. Bridgers will be retiring from competitive CrossFit after this season after eight years of competing.
Bridgers began competing in 2011, but was unable to qualify for the CrossFit Games until 2014. Bridgers finished 9th, 4th and 5th in the South East Regional from 2011-2013, back when only three athletes qualified from each region.
Then in 2014, Bridgers had a breakout season. Bridgers dominated the South East Regional with three event wins, two 2nd place finishes and a 7th. Bridgers would go on to her best finish at the CrossFit Games, 6th.
Bridgers would then compete on Team USA at the 2014 CrossFit Invitational alongside Rich Froning, Jason Khalipa and Julie Foucher. Team USA took 1st.
Heading into the 2015 season, Bridgers was one of the favorites heading into the CrossFit Games. Bridgers, once again, dominated the Regional competition, this time beating Samantha Briggs. Bridgers, however, would end up 24th at the Games.
Bridgers won the 2016 Atlantic Regional and finished 2nd last year. In Madison, Bridgers took 16th overall, her best finish since 2014.
This year, Bridgers enters the Atlantic Regional ranked 3rd in the South East region. Bridgers is looking to qualify for her 5th CrossFit Games appearance before leaving her shoes on competition floor.
