Armen Hammer is reporting that there will be a change to the Event 1, First Cut, next year at the 2020 CrossFit Games. Armen has been told by Greg Glassman that next year all athletes will get to compete in three “classic CrossFit-style” events that will use the ‘Every Second Counts’ format from the 2008 CrossFit Games.
According to Armen, these three events will take place over the first day and a half, similar to this year with two events on Day 1 and the third event kicking off Day 2.
The First Cut score will be the cumulative time of the first three events. This cumulative time will be used to determine the which athletes are cut and eliminated from the competition. It is unclear how many athletes would be cut in this new format. This year the field was narrowed down to the top 40 after Event 3, Ruck.

Looking back at the 2008 CrossFit Games, the events that year were Fran, a deadlift/burpee couplet, hill run and Grace (30 clean & jerks for time). We still have 51 more weeks until the start of the 2020 CrossFit Games, but we now have our first piece of information!
