Games Veterans in Jeopardy of Not Qualifying Via the Open

There is just one week left and there are quite a few Games veterans who are in jeopardy of not qualifying via the Open. This year an athlete must be a national champion or finish in the top 20 worldwide (of those who are not crowned national champions). That means some really big names will be on the outside looking in.

Here is a look at who might have to win one of the remaining Sanctionals to get an invite to the Games this year:

Men

  • Eric Carmody (32)
  • Dean Linder-Leighton (35)
  • Alexandre Caron (40)
  • Zeke Grove (53)
  • Paul Tremblay (56)
  • Lukas Esslinger (57)
  • James Hobart (65)
  • Alec Smith (66)
  • Michael Palomba (68)
  • Royce Dunne (69)
  • Cody Mooney (70)
  • Roman Khrennikov (73)
  • Noah Ohlsen (74)
  • Ben Stoneberg (82)
  • Jacob Anderson (87)
  • Will Moorad (94)
  • Rasmus Anderson (99)
  • Steven Fawcett (102)
  • Wesley Rethwill (103)
  • Travis Williams (105)
  • Nick Urankar (114)
  • Brandon Swan (117)
  • James Newbury (118) – already invited to Games via Australian CrossFit Championship
  • Brent Fikowski (119)
  • Mitchel Stevenson (125)
  • Rob Forte (130)
  • Khan Porter (133)
  • John Coltey (137)
  • Sam Dancer (138)
  • Ethan Helbig (152)
  • Aaron Hanna (157)
  • Jordan Cook (190)
  • Alex Anderson (194)

After 19.4, the blue line sits at 28th place, Logan Collins. Collins has 425 total points, meaning that to be above the cut line an athlete would have to average 106th place on each workout. Assuming this average continues through 19.5, an athlete would need less than 531 points to qualify for the CrossFit Games via the “Top 20”. That means only Carmody, Linder-Leighton and Caron would have the potential to move above the blue line.

Women

  • Tasia Percevecz (34)
  • Jessica Griffith (36)
  • Kristi Eramo (38)
  • Courtney Haley (40)
  • Jessica Coughlan (46)
  • Thuri Helgadottir (47)
  • Cassidy Lance-McWherter (56)
  • Cheryl Nasso (57)
  • Justine Beath (59)
  • Chloe Gavin-David (66)
  • Jen Smith (68)
  • Ehea Schuerch (71)
  • Chelsey Hughes (72)
  • Madeline Sturt (77) – already invited to Games via Australian CrossFit Championship
  • Brista Mayfield (82)
  • Chyna Cho (85)
  • Camille Leblanc-Bazinet (89)
  • Meg Reardon (116)
  • Becca Voigt (126)
  • Bethany Shadburne (135)
  • Maddy Myers (146)
  • Anna Tobias (173)
  • Oddrun Gylfadottir (174)
  • Alethea Boon (175)
  • Paige Semenza (183)
  • Pip Malone (185)
  • Lindsey Valenzuela (187)

Using the same methodology as the men, the blue line sits at 32 athletes with less than 530 points. This means athletes need to have less 663 points to potentially qualify in the “Top 20”. Percevecz, Griffith and Eramo are the only three Games athletes who are likely within range to move above the blue line.
