Last month we reported that three of the top five men at the Asia Semifinal failed their drug test, including first place finisher Ivan Kukartsev. Kukartsev, Ilias Kuliev and Anatolii Borisenko all tested positive for banned substances while competing at the Asia Semifinal in May.
Now, four weeks after the initial announcement, CrossFit has denied the appeals filed by Kuliev and Borisenko. With that both have received a four-year sanction starting on May 19, 2024.
If you remember, Kuliev, 3rd at the Asia Semifinal, tested positive for metabolites of Drostanolone. Fourth-place finisher Borisenko’s drug test contained metabolites of GW501516.
In that same announcement, Kukartsev and North America East team athlete Tyler Lee were also implicated in failing their drug tests. But while Kuliev and Borisenko’s appeals have been denied, Kukartsev and Lee’s appeals are still underway.
Following Kukartsev’s failed drug test, Ilya Makarov was invited to backfill Kukartsev’s spot to the CrossFit Games. However, Makarov was unable to obtain a visa leaving Arthur Semenov as Asia’s only male representative at the 2024 CrossFit Games.
