Sam Dancer and team are heading back to the CrossFit Games. Last year’s runner-up team had a slightly different roster, but the team led by Sam Dancer will once again be in Madison, Wisconsin, this August after winning the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge this weekend.
It turned into a head-to-head battle between Invictus X and Misfits as the weekend progressed, but Invictus X started Sunday strong with a 1st place finish on Lazer Tag and followed that up with a 3rd place finish on Bridge 4 to separate themselves from Misfits and the rest of the field. By the final event, Invictus X had wrapped up the Sanctional win and an invite to the 2019 CrossFit Games.
Invictus X featured Sam Dancer and Holden Rethwill from last year’s Games team. They were joined by CrossFit Games veteran Maddy Myers and Chantelle Loehner. Loehner also qualified for the CrossFit Games as an individual after finishing 25th in the world last month. If Loehner decides to go as an individual, Invictus X can use an alternate spot to replace her.
Just two weeks ago, it was revealed that Camille Leblanc-Bazinet would be replacing Jamie Greene on Team ROMWOD/WIT to compete at the CrossFit Games. ROMWOD/WIT won the Wodapalooza CrossFit Festival in January.
Misfits finished 2nd with a team comprised of CrossFit Games veterans. Travis Williams, Roy Gamboa, Alexis Johnson and Jennifer Smith were unable to hang with Dancer and Invictus X throughout the weekend.
Final Standings
1) Invictus X
2) Misfits
3) CrossFit Balance
