The CrossFit Italian Showdown (CIS) is unlike any other CrossFit Sanctional event. Rather than using an online qualifier to narrow down its field to the top 30-40 athletes, the CIS is open to anyone willing to make the trip to Italy in April.
With no qualification process, the CIS allows any athlete to register and compete at the Italian Sanctional. Up to 1,500 athletes can register to compete in either the Individual, Teams and Age Group categories.
To accommodate the anticipated large field, the CIS is moving to a bigger and better venue. The Play Hall Sports Center in Riccione will host the 2020 CIS. Riccione is in Northern Italy and is one of the main tourist destinations on the Adriatic Riviera.
Registration is still a bit away, November 13, but with no online qualifier, it might be time to start thinking about a trip to Italy this April. The CIS is a three-day event from April 22-24, 2020.
Last year, Roman Khrennikov and Erin Vandendriessche won the men’s and women’s individual competition, respectively. Vandendriesshe and Lukas Esslinger, who finished 4th, earned the invite to the compete at the 2019 CrossFit Games.
