After a wild day, 20.3 is a repeat! Going back two years, the third workout of the 2020 CrossFit Open is a repeat of 18.4.
The workout is:
For time:
21 deadlifts, 225 lb.
21 handstand push-ups
15 deadlifts, 225 lb.
15 handstand push-ups
9 deadlifts, 225 lb.
9 handstand push-ups
21 deadlifts, 315 lb.
50-ft. handstand walk
15 deadlifts, 315 lb.
50-ft. handstand walk
9 deadlifts, 315 lb.
50-ft. handstand walk
Time cap: 9 min.
The handstand push-up standard is also back in 2020. If you remember, in 2018 a new method for determining the line was created. Last year, that standard was eliminated as strict handstand push-ups were introduced.
The line created a lot of controversy, especially when Jacob Heppner was unable to meet the standard.
As mentioned earlier, CrossFit announced penalties for 26 athletes after video review of 20.1. A major penalty would impossible to recover from so holding the standards on the handstand push-up and getting a full lockout on the deadlifts.
Back in 2018, Austin Malleolo had the fastest men’s time at 6:02. Carol-Ann Reason-Thibault finished in 5:58, the fastest time for women. For the top athletes, this is a fast workout with little room for error…especially in the form of a penalty after video review.
