While the top of the women’s competition featured athletes already qualified for the CrossFit Games, the men’s side was the opposite. Heading into the competition, Will Moorad, Sean Sweeney, Adrian Mundwiler were all competing in an attempt to earn an invite to the CrossFit Games.
Early on into the weekend, however, another name crept up the leaderboard – Justin Medeiros. At just 20 years old, Medeiros is a two-time Regional competitor out of CrossFit Fort Vancouver. After finished 68th in the 2020 CrossFit Open, Medeiros looked like he belonged at the CrossFit Games.
Sporting an awesome mullet (yes, this is an opinion…but it’s basically a fact), Medeiros took on Games veterans and stood out from the crowd. With only one slip-up, a 16th place finish on the Trek Run Sunday morning, Medeiros was the prime example of consistency all weekend.
Medeiros never won an event, but racked up five Top 3 event finishes on his way to a 38-point win over 2nd place finisher Roman Khrennikov. Tim Paulson, who had already qualified via the Open, finished in 3rd place.
