If you looked at the 23.1 leaderboard last week, you might have noticed Willy Georges finished 225th in the world after completing 265 reps. While most would just shrug that off and not think much of his performance, he was actually on the back end of dealing with bronchitis.
So the 14-minute chipper in 23.1 was actually Willy’s first workout in two weeks! But he managed to get through the workout relatively unscathed and has been recovering ever since.
Now a week post-sickness, Georges is still not quite where he wants to be physically, but it should be good enough to stay in the hunt to advance to Quarterfinals.
Georges’ luck with the Open has not been the best over the last couple years. In 2021, Willy suffered a subscapularis tendon tear in his shoulder while doing 21.1. He would end up withdrawing from the Open.
Now, of course, this year he’s coming off a sickness right before the Open. However, Georges ended up getting 159 reps (round of 30 burpee pull-ups plus 4 of the shuttle runs). While disappointed in his score, he is happy that he is feeling better after being sick with the flu and bronchitis leading up to last week’s Open workout.
