A few months ago CrossFit Games veteran Christy Adkins shared with her Instagram followers that she was pregnant. The news obviously would mean that Adkins would be sitting out the 2018 CrossFit Games season and possibly 2019.
Yesterday, Adkins shared another post on Instagram as she opened up about her thoughts around retiring from the Sport of Fitness to still having that fire to compete. Adkins shared…
That competitive spirit…it still burns within me. •
This year, pregnancy or not, I had made the decision that I was not going to compete. Not as an individual or on team. I told myself I’m retired. Much to our great joy, I did get pregnant and it’s been an amazing few months. I am excited and nervous for what this year will bring as a new mom-to-be. I have no competition goals or timeline set for myself for down the road. But I do know, as if there was any doubt, that drive to compete is still there, that drive to test my limits and put myself out there is still there. It’s a great feeling to watch the competition this weekend and to look ahead to this @crossfitgames season as a coach this year. I also see how many opportunities there are to compete and join in the fun in the future and I know…I’m not retired…just taking a little break for a while…maybe even a few years. But based on the role models I have all around me ( @holwaykim @glkitt @stephb2940 @gailebinder @beccavoigt @liftlikelindsey @valvoboril + many more), I see for some of us, that fire will always be there. 🔥
So it might be a year or two or three before we see Adkins on the competition floor again. But it’s good to hear that it’s a break for now, not just retirement.
