Reebok is entering the market of shoes with a carbon plate. Dubbed the Reebok Nano Pro, it is the first Nano to feature a Graphite Carbon Plate. The newest iteration of the Nano-line, these appear to be rolling out in countries outside the United States.
The new Nano Pro is currently available on the Reebok Korea website and appears to have just launched in Australia via TWL.
In addition to the carbon plate, the Nano Pro has some more noticeable differences from its most recent versions.
First, the Nano Pro has a 3mm heel-to-toe drop. The current Nano X5 has a 7mm drop. Thus, the Nano Pro will “provide more stability during lifting movements.”
Second, the Nano Pro weighs 50 grams less than the Nano X5. The Nano X5 weighs 340 grams in a men’s US size 9, so this would be approximately a 15% reduction in the weight of the new Nano Pro.
The Nano Pro will feature the Exoskeleton Flexweave Upper and the SuperFloat Foam Midsole.Â
Reebok appears to be targeting both the CrossFit crowd as well as those who do HYROX with the new Nano Pro.
The cost, however, is a bit higher than what you might have become accustomed to when it comes to the Nano line. On TWL, the Nano Pro is retailing at $300 AUD, which is around $200 USD.Â
The Nano X5 are currently on sale for $140-150 USD, depending on the colorway, on the Reebok website.
As for when the Nano Pro will be available in the United States? We’re not sure. So far Reebok has not made an official statement regarding the future availability. However, with the CrossFit Games coming up in five weeks, don’t be surprised if we see Reebok athletes wearing them in Albany, New York.
Carbon Plate is the Future?
Reebok’s venture into a carbon-plated sole comes on the heels of TYR’s carbon-plated footwear. TYR was the first manufacturer to introduce a carbon plate into shoes designed for CrossFitters. TYR currently has the Valkyrie Elite Carbon Runners, Carbon Elite Trainers and the TYRFORCE Elite Carbon Lifter.
Will we see more shoe companies add a carbon plate to future updates?
