Justin Medeiros purchased a Honda monkey motorcycle with some of his prize money from winning the 2021 CrossFit Games. That same motorcycle would end up putting him in the hospital.
Days after announcing that he had been in an accident, Medeiros shared the details that caused him to withdraw from this weekend’s Battle of the Camps at GYMREAPERS Wodapalooza SoCal.

I bought myself a little Honda monkey motorcycle after winning the games in 2021. I haven’t ridden it much the last few years so I have been trying to sell it with no takers. I needed a haircut so decided to take it for a quick spin. On the way, someone made an illegal sudden U turn right in front of me. I don’t remember the impact but I remember hitting the breaks and thinking to myself I did not have enough distance to stop.
The next thing I remember, I was opening my eyes on the pavement. I was in a dream like state and trying to figure out where I was. Luckily there was a nurse who witnessed the accident and was there on scene with me before medics arrived. I was unconscious for quite some time but she kept me still and kept talking to me.
The accident happened at 11:30am and the rest of the day was a bit of a blur. I got a bunch of test done and turns out I got off very lucky. I ended up breaking and dislocating my jaw in multiple places along with lots of teeth. I also have a hematoma in my ear that is keeping me from hearing and a decent concussion. But my brain and neck were fine! No other fractures in my body but it is definitely banged up.
Luckily all this is fixable! I got surgery yesterday, got plates put in my jaw, some of my teeth realigned, and my jaw wired shut. Now I’m on the road to recovery ❤️🩹
