James Townsend Completes One Ton Challenge in 37 Seconds!

You have probably heard about the One Ton Challenge by now. If not, it was created by WWE superstar John Cena as a way to “make training more fun by gamifying it.” The goal of the One Ton Challenge is to lift one ton, or 2,000 pounds (1,200 for women), within 48 hours doing six lifts:

One Ton Challenge Lifts:

  • Back Squat
  • Clean
  • Jerk
  • Snatch
  • Deadlift
  • Bench Press

At the 2019 CrossFit Games, C.T. Fletcher hosted the One Ton Challenge in the FITAID Lounge. Athletes like Wes Kitts, Elijah Muhammad, Adrian Conway, Kristin Pope, Morghan King, Katie Cork and Logan Aldridge had 20 minutes to attempt six lifts.

So yesterday, James Townsend decided to do all six lifts as fast as possible. He ran through the lifts twice, both in just 37 SECONDS!

First Attempt

Clean: 315
Jerk: 315
Snatch: 245
Deadlift: 520
Bench Press: 353
Squat: 480
Total: 2,228

Second Attempt

Clean: 337
Jerk: 337
Snatch: 265
Deadlift: 520
Bench Press: 353
Squat: 480
Total: 2,292

Townsend would go on to hit 2,292 pounds! And he said he “kept it light and moved some weight. Its was fun.”
