Khan Porter has made it to the CrossFit Games three times from 2014-2016. After missing last year and considering retirement in the past, Porter qualified once again for the 2018 CrossFit Games.
It is doubtful that anyone would say that Porter is not a talented CrossFit athlete. However, apparently some have questioned Porter’s commitment to the sport. To address this, Porter went on his first ever Instagram “rant”.
Porter starts by saying some people likely “misinterpret this [having a balanced lifestyle outside the gym] as me in someway saying I‘m not serious about my training and competing, when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Balance outside the gym is the key to keeping me focused inside it.”
Porter continues, “Ive worked my ass off for 6 years in this sport. Yet some people feel that because I openly enjoy a few beers and perhaps live a little wilder than some other athletes they have the right to criticise my dedication to being the best competitor I can.
And that sucks.
“Social media is a business and I’m a brand as well as an athlete. What you see on Instagram reflects (as honestly as possible) parts of my life but it doesn’t tell the whole story. What you don’t see is the effort that goes on behind the filtered travel photos and Instagram stories of me with beer in hand.”
Porter ends by telling those who question him to look at themselves and apply their words in their own training. He ends by saying, “It’s very easy to type words on a screen without giving thought to the human beings reading them.”
Of course in true Porter fashion his next post was this…
Porter will be competing in his 4th CrossFit Games beginning on August 1 in Madison, Wisconsin.
