2023 CrossFit Games champion Laura Horvath sat down with Lia Kiss, founder of The Blooming Grape, for an interview covering Horvath’s love for schnitzel, grocery shopping and what brings her happiness. The Blooming Grape is an online magazine based in Austria that explores “all things culinary”.
So, obviously, Laura Horvath was interviewed. Also, Austria and Hungary share a border in case you didn’t know.
Anyway, the interview begins by asking for the best advice Laura ever received regarding diet and food. “The best advice I’ve ever received is that nothing needs to be eliminated entirely—you just need to live with moderation,” shared Horvath. “Balance is the key to everything. People often tell me things like, ‘You shouldn’t eat after 6 PM because it makes you gain weight,’ but that’s not true. What matters is the total number of calories you consume throughout the day, not when you eat them.”
Later, Kiss asked what Horvath keeps in her gym bag to keep her energy levels high. “I usually have some kind of cured meat, like jerky, because it doesn’t go bad, and a protein bar. I’m not a huge fan of protein shakes, but bars are a great option when I need something quick and easy,” Horvath answered.
They also touched on the mental challenge of CrossFit. Horvath shared, “Before competitions or heavy lifts, I talk to myself and visualize what I’m going to do. I didn’t learn it from anyone; it’s just something I developed over time.”
