Scott Panchik just made news last week when the rumors were confirmed that the 8-time CrossFit Games veteran was joining Rich Froning and the Mayhem Freedom team for the 2020 season. Panchik and Froning revealed the news during the pre-show of Rogue Fitness’ 20.1 Live Open Announcement.
If you watched closely during the workout, Panchik was wearing a different pair of shoes. That is because Panchik just signed with inov-8.
For those who have been around CrossFit for a long time, you are probably familiar with inov-8. Known for trail running, inov-8 was the first “CrossFit” shoe back in 2011 (not counting the 5-Finger Vibrams).
While competitors came in and stole some of the headlines, inov-8 continued to release and improve its low-drop shoes over the years. And now inov-8 is coming back into the limelight.
Panchik joins Dani Speegle as inov-8’s two most recognized CrossFit athletes to have signed to wear their shoes.
As part of the announcement, inov-8 asked Panchik a few questions about the 2020 CrossFit season and why he choose to sign with them.
After watching you succeed in the sport for so many years, we are super excited o have you on board. Why did you choose inov-8?
When I first started doing Crossfit it was the first shoe I bought. I love its versatility. I wear it to train, coach, and in everyday life. I had a lot of foot issues and had to change shoes all the time. Now it’s one pair of inov-8’s all day!
You have some really exciting plans this year that are slightly different to previous years, could you let us in on some of those?
Yes, my plans for this year are to qualify for the Crossfit Games again. I want to compete in sanctioned events around the world on a team and as an individual.
You are doing the first 2020 CrossFit Games Open announcement against Rich Froning, how are you feeling about it?
I am very excited to compete in the first open announcement of the 2020 season. I have done these in the past and have always had my best workouts in front of a big crowd of screaming fans. The energy and atmosphere at these events is incredible.
What are you goals for the next year?
My goals for this year are very simple. I want to win, inspire others, and have fun as often as I can training.
You have been at the top of the sport for so many years, what do you put that down to? How do you manage to be so consistent for so long?
I have managed to be consistent by changing just a few things every year when I return from the Games. I am surrounded by supportive family and friends that all play a big part in my success throughout the year. Lastly, I wouldn't be able to do the things I am doing without the love and support of my wife. She gives me time every day to be the best athlete I can be.
What is your favorite shoe to train in right now?
My favorite shoe is the inov-8 F-LITE 260 KNIT.
