The book, “The Glass Box: The Shocking True Story of How CrossFit Broke the Rules, Made Millions, and Changed Fitness Forever”, is now available wherever you buy books.
Written by Calum Marsh, the book takes the reader through the journey of Greg Glassman, from the creation of CrossFit, the wild times during its growth phase and to when he sold the company in 2020.
Marsh interviewed numerous company insiders from former-CEO Jeff Cain to former employee Tony Budding to Dave Castro and even Greg Glassman, himself. Through these interviews Marsh was able to piece together the wild ride that Glassman and CrossFit would go through over two decades.
Over the course of 331 pages, “The Glass Box” covers topics that had never been fully documented previously. The Black Box Summit, where one of the most infamous arguments and break-ups within CrossFit, kicked the book off. It gave insight into how things were managed from the beginning of the company and shed light on how the inner workings of CrossFit.

One of the threads that weaved throughout the book was the exorbitant spending and lack of monetary oversight. From the CrossFit Games running a $14 million annual loss to CrossFit’s $200,000 per month (yes, per MONTH!) Verizon cell phone bill, Glassman and the company were spending and spending while CrossFit’s revenue ballooned to $100 million in 2015.
Quick aside relating to the cell phone bill, Glassman would reportedly go to the Verizon store and purchase iPhones for good looking women he met and added them to the company plan.
Marsh even told us in that interview above that CrossFit was managing the finances of a multi-million company with spreadsheets!
If you are a CrossFitter, this book is quite the read. Honestly, you won’t be disappointed. Trust me.
