The Truth Behind Mat Fraser’s “Return to Competition” Rumors

Remember when Mat Fraser said he was returning to competition in 2027? Yeah, it was click bait.

Fraser will not be returning to compete in the CrossFit Games season. He isn’t doing ATHX. He’s not signing up for the next XENOM.

Nope. He’s going to do an endurance challenge. Fraser shared the news with Men’s Health while in Scotland for the Rogue Invitational this past weekend where he spilled the beans for his plans next year.

But while Fraser shared the direction he was going he stopped short of saying which endurance event it would be outside of that it would take between 24-30 hours.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say it will be the Leadville Trail 100 Run next August 2027. For one, the time limit is 30 hours with many trying to break 25 hours. On top of the timeframe lining up, his good friend Heber Canon of the Buttery Bros just did the Leadville 100 a few months ago.

If I’m wrong, then maybe he will just do the Taco Bell 50k Ultra. It does claim to have a higher DNF rate than the famed Leadville 100 Trail Race.
