TYR has just released its new CXT Elite V2 Trainers. This iteration builds upon the carbon-fiber POWERPLATE technology that debuted in 2024 with the CXT-2 Elite Carbon Trainer.
I have been lucky enough to test out every version of TYR trainers released over the years, and the CXT Elite V2 Trainer is my favorite so far.
What I Like
First, I really liked the return to the 4mm stack height (heel-to-toe drop) in the new CXT Elite V2 Trainers. I believe the previous TYR trainers were all 7mm. It feels more natural to wear than the previous versions.

Second, the upper, more specifically the tongue is very comfortable. One of my complaints of the previous CXT-2 Elite Carbon Trainer was that it was a bit tight on the top of my foot. The new CXT Elite V2 Trainer has remedied that while still providing enough support for dynamic movements.

And third, the sole feels more flexible than previous versions, especially the first iteration of the carbon-fiber shoe. This second iteration has much more bend in the forefoot, making it a better option when there is running, double-unders or box jumps on the whiteboard.
What I Don’t Like
I really only have one complaint. And that is the width of the shoe. Now, I have narrow feet and am not really affected by this, but it is on the narrower side of shoes on the market.

I would compare the width of the CXT Elite V2 Trainer to that of the Nike Metcon. If you like the Nike Metcon you will like this shoe. However, I know many who feel that it is too narrow. If that’s you, you probably won’t be a fan.

Some also might balk at the price. These are currently retailing for $188 on the TYR website. Many like to find deals and get a pair of shoes under $100, carbon-fiber isn’t cheap…and thus the shoe isn’t either.
Outside of the width (for my wide-footed friends) and the above-average price tag, I’ve been really happy when testing these out.
