Julian Alcaraz did everything he needed to qualify for a return trip to the CrossFit Games. But after the top 5 from the California Regional were revealed, the announcer stopped everyone to make one more announcement. Alcaraz, who will become a father in early August, informed CrossFit HQ that he would forego the CrossFit Games and declined his invite.
In lieu of Alcaraz, Wesley Rethwill will now join Josh Bridges, Garret Fisher, Jason Carroll and Jeff Patzer in Madison, Wisconsin, for the 2017 CrossFit Games. Christian Lucero, who was leading entering the final day, tore his left pec on a ring muscle-up during Event 5 and had to withdraw from the competition.
