Mat Fraser and other top CrossFit athletes from around the world are making their way to Dubai to compete in the Dubai Fitness Championship. The four-day event is a culmination of an online qualifier and one that will payout $50,000 to the Men’s and Women’s winner.
The event begins on Wednesday, December 7, with a 32km open road bike race. From there, the athletes will compete in a total of 15 events. So far only six events have been announced, but they are rather interesting.
Event 12 on the final day is 3,000Kg Snatch for time (Men) and 2,100Kg Snatch for time (Women). Every 10 snatches perform 10 back squats @ 200Kg /140Kg. The event will be held at the Dubai Mall Ice Rink.
The event will be a comeback test for several athletes who have been injured recently. Jonne Koski pulled out of the 2016 CrossFit Games with a back injury while Sam Briggs underwent shoulder surgery in August. Mat Fraser will be competing after pulling himself from the CrossFit Invitational citing a lower body injury.
Notable Men’s athletes include: Alec Smith, Alex Vigneault, Alex Anderson, Bjorgvin Gudmundsson, Jonne Koski, Jordan Troyan, Kenneth Leverich, Lukas Hogberg, Lukas Esslinger, Mat Fraser and Travis Mayer.
On the Women’s side, notable athletes include: Alessandra Pichelli, Annie Thorisdottir, Brooke Ence, Carmen Bosmans, Jamie Greene, Jen Smith, Kari Pearce, Sara Sigmundsdottir, Sam Briggs and Thuridur Erla Helgadottir.
It appears that Brooke Wells will not be competing even though she had participated in the online qualifier.
You can track the results on the online leaderboard. We will update if there is an online stream available.
