19-Year Old Farkhodbek Sobirov Lifts More Than Olympian Kendrick Farris

Farkhodbek Sobirov (Uzbekistan) is just 19 years old but his lifts at the 2017 IWF Junior Championships were competitive at the senior level. Sobirov (94kg weight category) went 6-for-6 and finished with a 180kg snatch, 210kg clean and jerk for a 390kg total.

Sobirov won gold by 12kg and had locked up 1st place after his first successful clean and jerk at 200kg.

To put Sobirov’s lifts into perspective, a 390kg total would have placed him 4th at the 2016 Olympics. Kendrick Farris finished 11th at the Olympics going 160-197-257.

At last year’s Olympic Trials, Norik Vardanian’s snatch was only 172kg and Farris’ top clean and jerk was 209kg. Combined, neither would have topped Sobirov’s performance in Tokyo.
