The United States Anti-Doping Association (USADA) sanctioned Brandon Reyes for six months following a positive drug test conducted at the 2016 USA Weightlifting National University Championships. Reyes’ sample tested positive for 1,3-dimethylbutylamine (DMBA) following his performance at the competition.

USADA’s investigation found that the positive test was a result of a dietary supplement. Similar to Nicole Moore’s findings, USADA determined that it would be difficult to identify the presence of the DMBA in the supplement Reyes was using. Because of this, USADA reduced the sanction to six months, the same as Moore’s sanction.

Reyes’ sanction began on September 24, 2016, the date of the sample collected, and will expire on March 24, 2017. Reyes competed as a 77kg lifter and placed 14th with a 255kg total.

The supplement that Reyes was taking was on the list of high risk supplements maintained by USADA.
