The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Congress revised their action plan to create two working groups – one to address anti-doping and one for “sport program”. Both were accepted by the IWF Executive Board.
The working groups will address gender equality, new events, 2020 Olympic body weight categories, athlete quota and qualification system. The changes were brought about in response to the International Olympic Committee’s decision to reduce the number of weight classes to 14 and the number of athlete quotas for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The Executive Board will hold a special meeting in September to discuss the actions the working the groups have identified.
Stay tuned as there will likely be updates coming soon.
