The dates for Rogue Invitational’s online qualifier, The Q, will be September 6-9. The online qualifier will send at least the top 5 men and women to compete at the 2024 Rogue Invitational in Aberdeen, Scotland, this November.
The Rogue Invitational invites 20 men and 20 women to compete each year. While the invites were at Rogue’s discretion, historically the top 15 athletes at the CrossFit Games were invited along with the top 5 athletes from The Q.
This year, however, Rogue has implemented a new qualifying system that awards points to athletes based on prior performance looking back four years (note: original system had a 5-year lookback). Rogue has indicated their plan is to invite a minimum of 10 from this qualification system and at least five from The Q.Â
With the new system in place, it likely means that more Games-level athletes will need to register for The Q to earn their spot to this year’s competition. For example, Brent Fikowski, Lazar Dukic, Saxon Panchik, Sam Kwant, Dallin Pepper and Jay Crouch are all outside the top 10 currently.
The date for the qualifier, however, conflicts with the Northern California Classic. The NorCal Classic typically draws a few big name athletes, but this year quite a few top athletes have committed to competing. Colten Mertens, Taylor Self, Tudor Magda, Trista Smith and Kelsey Kiel have all announced their intention to compete this year.
Colten Mertens and Tudor Magda both attempted to qualify via The Q last year. We will have to wait and see if this announcement impacts anyone’s decision to travel to NorCal.
