A Mayhem Athlete-Only Competition?!?!

Angelo DiCicco is a dirty damn spy! While we were at Crash, I could tell he was up to something. Between sneaking around, jumping on the show, and engaging in general nonsense with John Young, it was clear that Angelo wasn’t just there to support his buddy, Sam DeMeester.

In the most recent episode of the CrossFit Mayhem podcast, Rich, Angelo, and Rory briefly mention the idea of running an internal competition exclusively for Mayhem athletes. Rich asks, “How cool would it be to do 2 or 3 Mayhem Athlete-only events where the athletes could make like $10,000?” However, they quickly moved past this intriguing idea. What?

Spin commented in a post that I “really, really, really liked the Crash Crucible.” Yes, call me biased! From everyone I’ve talked to, it was one of the best events in the past five years. I’ve heard comments like, “I watched hardly any of the Games, but I watched all of Crash.” I can’t help but think the Mayhem crew was inspired by this.

Speaking for myself, this is exactly what I wanted. The tide has shifted away from relying solely on CrossFit to run the sport. People like JR, Mayhem, and others are stepping up to take the lead. Hosting a small competition every few weeks or months out of Mayhem would be huge from a viewing standpoint. They have arguably the best media crew in the ecosystem and could produce a wealth of content to generate hype and inspiration.

Later in the show, the guys discuss the impending changes and rumors for the season, including TYR WZA SoCal, and various politics. Overall, I hope these guys execute on their vision. Rich even extended an invitation to sponsors for the event, so I’m feeling optimistic.

P.S. If they don’t use P-Score, it’ll be dumb!
