The Atlas Games was founded in 2016 and steadily grew through the years. In 2020, the competition took on the name, CrossFit Atlas Games, as it became one of 28 CrossFit Sanctionals of the 2020 CrossFit Games season. Unfortunately, the 2020 version was canceled less than 24 hours before the start of competition thanks to COVID.
Fast forward a year, the Atlas Games returned to host one of the four North America CrossFit Semifinals in both 2021 and 2022. Then, last year CrossFit decided to bring the North American Semifinals in-house, leaving the Atlas Games (and Granite Games, Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge and Syndicate Crown) without a competition in 2023.
And while the Syndicate Crown and West Coast Classic (a 2021 Semifinal location) are back in the CrossFit ecosystem, the Atlas Games is also returning in 2024.
The 2024 Atlas Games will be held at the Canada Games Park in Thorold, Ontario, from June 21-23, 2024. This year’s version will feature four individual, seven age-group and five team divisions (including two Masters Team divisions).
To compete in the Elite individual division, the Atlas Games will invite athletes. For those not receiving an invite, athletes will have the opportunity to qualify via an online qualifier (dates TBD). All other individual divisions, including Masters, will be able to register directly into the division without the need for an online qualifier.
The team competition will be Teams of 3 (MMM or FFF). There is not an online qualifier for teams as they will be able to register directly for the in-person competition. Athletes do not need to be from the same gym, city or country to compete.
As for the venue, the Canada Games Park venue was constructed in 2022 and features two indoor arenas, a 200-meter indoor track, four NBA courts and a 400-meter Outdoor Track and Field Facility. It can also accommodate seating for over 1,000 spectators.
