The 2026 TYR Wodapalooza Miami Beach is moving to March. We covered that back in January when the announcement was made on the final day of this year’s competition. But it looks like the elite competition is also going to be different based on the published rulebook.
Remind Me: In previous years, the online qualifier sent the top 20 men and women to the elite individual division at TYR WZA. In addition, there was a laundry list of invites to join those who qualified via the online qualifier…from competing at the most recent CrossFit Games to previous Games podium finishers, previous WZA winners and a few more.
Basically, the total number of athletes in the elite division was completely unknown and open based on who ended up accepting an invitation. In some cases, that meant an athlete would sometimes end up joining the competition a couple days before 3,2,1 GO!
What’s New? The currently published rulebook, however, shows a much smaller field for next year’s competition in Miami Beach.
All the way down on page 16 in Section 4.4.2.2, there are only 20 spots available for both men and women.
Then, down in Section 4.4.3.2, the rulebook outlines how those 20 spots are divided between the online qualifier and special invites.
Now, instead of the top 20 from the online qualifier getting an invite to the elite division, only the top 5 will get that opportunity. The next 34 athletes in the online qualifier will get an invite to compete in the Rx division.
Then, WZA will extend 15 invites based on “criteria”.
That criteria, however, has not been updated in the rulebook yet.
The same limitation appears to be happening for the elite teams of 3. The top 10 teams from the online qualifier will join 20 teams who receive an invite from a yet to be announced criteria.
Last year 38 men and 45 women registered for the elite individual competition. And on the elite teams of 3, there were 39 men’s teams and 40 women’s teams in the elite competition.
In 2026, the fields will be much smaller.
The 2026 TYR Wodapalooza Miami Beach will be March 12-15, 2026, in Miami Beach, Florida.
The dates for the online qualifier are as follows:
Individual Week 1: October 8-13, 2025
Individual Week 2: October 15-20, 2025
Teams & Pairs: November 13-24, 2025
