Gui Malheiros Takes 8th Place at Atomic Olympic Triathlon

Known for his exceptional ability and strength in lifting events, Gui Malheiros is focusing on his endurance this off-season. The CrossFit Games veteran headed to Lenoir, Tennessee, this past weekend to compete in the Atomic Olympic Triathlon.

An Olympic Triathlon is comprised of a 0.93 mile (1.5km) swim, 24.8 mile (40km) bike and 6.2 mile (10km) run. Malheiros completed the course in just under 3 hours, 2:53:11 to be exact.

Malheiros told The Barbell Spin, “I did the Atomic Triathlon to work on aerobic capacity, but I also think triathlons are fun.”

His time was good for 8th place out of 27 male athletes competing, not bad for someone who also can clean and jerk 395 pounds.

Malheiros’ split times were:

Swim – 32:36
Bike – 1:22:12
Run – 52:52

Gui’s best relative performance against the field was the run where he had the 6th fastest time.

As for what the rest of the off-season looks like, Gui commented, “Training on Saturdays has focused a lot on aerobic capacity. Not just monostructural but longer metcons too.”

While the triathlon season in Tennessee is wrapping up, Gui said he plans on doing more competitions this off-season whether it’s a bike race or a local 10k run. So keep an eye out for Gui because he might just be lined up next to you at the next Turkey Trot 5k this Thanksgiving.

Gui wasn’t the only CrossFitter in Lenoir City last weekend. PRVN Fitness CEO, Nic Johnston, completed the Sprint Triathlon in 1:51:41.
