Hunter McIntyre Wins 2019 HYROX Miami Competition

Hunter McIntyre traveled down to Miami, Florida, this weekend to compete in the 2019 HYROX competition. HYROX is a new athletic event for the winter season. Held inside a large arena, HYROX is for every level athlete and hosts up to 3,000 at every competition.

The competition has the same format each time and includes 8km of running and 8 functional workouts in between each kilometer.

The full workout for the Pro division (men/women) is:

  • 1km Run
  • 1,000m SkiErg
  • 1km Run
  • 2x25m Sled Push (385/275lb)
  • 1km Run
  • 2×25 Sled Pull (275/165lb)
  • 1km Run
  • 80m Burpee Broad Jump
  • 1km Run
  • 1,000m Row
  • 1km Run
  • 200m KB Farmer Carry (32/24kg)
  • 1km Run
  • 100m Sandbag Lunges (66/45lb)
  • 1km Run
  • 100 Wall Balls (20/14lb)

As you can see, more than half of the workout is running. In fact, it is almost 5 miles of running plus plenty of functional fitness in between.

McIntrye completed the course in just over one hour, 1:00:27. The 2nd place finished came in a little over three minutes later. While it was not the world record, McIntyre did beat the current world record holder, Lukas Storath by over 3 1/2 minutes.

McIntyre earned himself a $2,500 check and an invite to compete at the 2020 HYROX World Championshipson April 4, 2020. McIntyre has 48 hours to accept his invite to compete at Worlds.

The next HYROX competition in the United States is in New York City on December 15.
