Laura Horvath and Thuri Helgadottir to Compete at 2024 IWF World Weightlifting Championships

The 2024 IWF World Championships begin tomorrow, December 6, and run through Sunday, December 15, in Manama, Bahrain. Some of the top Olympic weightlifters in the world will be in attendance including 2024 Olympic champions Olivia Reeves (USA), Karlos Nasar (Bulgaria) and Rizki Juniansyah (Indonesia).

While most of the athletes will be dedicated Olympic weightlifters, there are two CrossFit Games veterans in the field. 2023 CrossFit Games champion Laura Horvath and 7-time CrossFit Games athlete Thuri Helgadottir will be competing. Details on that below.

Manama, Bahrain is the capital and largest city of Bahrain. Bahrain itself is a small island country in the Persian Gulf. Located in West Asia, it is located between Qatar and the northeastern coast of Saudia Arabia. It is also near Dubai.

Laura Horvath

Laura Horvath will compete in the 76kg weight category. It is the same weight class that she won at the Hungary National Championship last month.

The competition at the IWF World Championships will be much tougher. Horvath will compete in the B session. Her listed entry is 212kg, well below the top listed entry weight of 265kg by Kuk Hyang Song of North Korea.

Horvath will take to the platform on Thursday, December 12, at 3:00pm local time (6:00am EST).

Mattie Rogers, an American Olympic weightlifter, will compete in the A session of the 76kg weight category. Rogers will compete on December 12 at 8:00pm local time (11:00am EST).

Here are all six of Horvath’s lifts from the 2024 European Weightlifting Championships back in February 2024.
