You probably know Lucy McGonigle as the reigning CrossFit Games champion in the 16-17 year-old teenage division. The Irish teenage phenom, however, is not just a champion at CrossFit. She is also really, really good at Olympic Weightlifting.
With three U17 British Weightlifting national records under her belt in the 64kg weight category, McGonigle moved up to the 71kg category for this weekend’s Northern Ireland Weightlifting Championships.
McGonigle would finish with an 85kg snatch, 108kg clean & jerk and a 193kg total.
Those would be good enough to set NINE, yes 9!, British Weightlifting Records. She is now the British Weightlifting 71kg record holder in the U17, U20 and U23 divisions for the snatch, clean & jerk and total!
Lucy’s record comes just a week after Laura Horvath won the Hungary National Weightlifting Championship.
