Mertens, Saghafi Receive Special Invite to Pro Division for Tour Stop 2

Colten Mertens and Fee Saghafi are not signed Pro athletes of the World Fitness Project. Both qualified for the Pro Division through the online qualifier to compete for points against the Pro field at Tour Stop 1 in Indianapolis this past weekend.

Mertens and Saghafi had the best finish among those who had qualified via the online qualifier. Mertens placed 9th overall while Saghafi finished 11th.

Despite their strong performance at Tour Stop 1, both would need to do the online qualifier for Tour Stop 2 in order to compete in Mesa, Arizona. That is until Will Moorad and the WFP gave them a special invite thereby allowing them to skip the upcoming online qualifier.

“Their performances stood out among an elite field,” said Moorad. “These invites recognize them as two of the most promising rising stars in the WFP. Congratulations, Fee and Colten! See you in Mesa!”

While the 2025 WFP rulebook does not explicitly state that special invites could be extended, there is a clause that does allow the WFP to extend an invite. The top of page 8 reads, “WFP holds the right to invite any athlete in any division to compete or add any division at any Competition.

With Mertens and Saghafi now taking one of the challenger spots in the Pro Division for Tour Stop 2, only nine spots in each division will be available for the Pro Division via the online qualifier.

The online qualifier for Tour Stop 2 is July 2-8. Tour Stop 2 in Mesa, Arizona, will be August 29-31.
