Rich Froning Will Be Competing at 2023 TYR Wodapalooza

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Rich Froning will be on the competition floor at the 2023 TYR Wodapalooza Fitness Festival. The 4x individual and 6x team CrossFit Games champion will be competing in the men’s elite team division alongside Sam Cournoyer and Tyler Christophel.

In October, Froning confirmed that he will be retiring from the team competition at the CrossFit Games. Instead, Froning’s current plan will be to compete in the Masters 35-39 age group division this coming year.

Froning’s teammates, Cournoyer and Christophel, are both Mayhem athletes. Cournoyer competed on Froning’s Mayhem Freedom team that won the 2022 CrossFit Games team competition. This year, howeve, Cournoyer, has moved back to his home in Canada and will be looking to qualify for the CrossFit Games as an individual.

Christophel is currently living in Cookeville, Tennessee, and training out of CrossFit Mayhem. Christophel has been to the Games on a team twice with CrossFit 417 back in 2017 and 2018. Last year, he narrowly missed qualifying to the Games as an individual when he finished 7th at the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge Semifinal followed by a 5th place finish in the Last Chance Qualifier.

Froning’s appearance at Wodapalooza in 2023 will mark his 5th appearance at the competition held every January in Miami. Last year, Froning teamed up with Angelo Dicicco and Luke Parker where they finished 5th in the men’s elite team division.

This year’s Wodapalooza takes place January 12-15, 2023, in Miami, Florida. The elite individuals will compete on Thursday and Friday while the elite teams take the floor over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
