Rogue’s New Qualifying System Updated to Include Results from 2024 CrossFit Games

Earlier this year Rogue debuted a new Invitational Qualifying System to assist in their process of inviting athletes outside of those who qualify via the online qualifier, “The Q”. The system looks at the previous four years of competition history within the CrossFit Open, Quarterfinals, Games and the Rogue Invitational with previous years’ points depreciating in value.

Following the conclusion of the 2024 CrossFit Games, Rogue’s Invitational Qualifying System has been updated to reflect athletes’ performance in Ft. Worth.

Jeff Adler and Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr are ranked 1st in the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively.

Men   Women
Jeff Adler 1 Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr
Pat Vellner 2 Laura Horvath
Justin Medeiros 3 Gabi Migala
Roman Khrennikov 4 Danielle Brandon
Bjorgvin K. Gudmundsson 5 Emma Lawson
Jayson Hopper 6 Arielle Loewen
Ricky Garard 7 Alexis Raptis
Noah Ohlsen 8 Annie Thorisdottir
Dallin Pepper 9 Alex Gazan
Jay Crouch 10 Brooke Wells

The complete Invitational Qualifying System rankings can be found here.

Rogue has stated that this qualifying system will remain an “Invitational” and Rogue reserves the right to invite anyone they choose to compete. The Rogue Invitational will feature 20 men and 20 women with a minimum of five from each division coming from the online qualifier.

In previous year’s the rule of thumb was that Rogue would invite the top 15 men and women from the current year’s CrossFit Games (with a few exceptions). It appears that Rogue will likely invite the top 10 from the new qualifying system and then will use their own discretion to fill in the remaining five spots for both the men and the women.

One of those remaining invites will likely go to the 2024 CrossFit Games champion, James Sprague. With only two Games appearances, Sprague is ranked 24th in Rogue’s qualifying system despite winning the CrossFit Games this year.

Emily Rolfe, 3rd at this year’s CrossFit Games, sits in 13th in the qualifying system.

How were withdrawals handled from this year’s CrossFit Games?

Rogue does have an Exceptions Points Table for certain situations including parental leave, competing on a team and a major injury. In all of these cases, Rogue averages the athlete’s prior two years of score for the missed competition and applies a 15% depreciation.

Rogue has applied the same methodology for those athletes who withdrew from this year’s CrossFit Games following Lazar Djukic’s death. For example, Laura Horvath received 828.75 points for the 2024 CrossFit Games (950 points for 3rd in 2022, 1,000 points for 1st in 2024 which averages to 975 points. A 15% reduction equates to 828.75 points).

Jeff Adler received 736.67 points for the 2024 CrossFit Games.

The Online Qualifier

The top 5 men and women from the online qualifier will automatically receive an invite to compete at the 2024 Rogue Invitational regardless of what they are ranked on the Invitational Qualifying System. The online qualifier will be held from September 6-9, 2024.
