Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr made her HYROX debut Sunday morning in Melbourne, Australia. The seven-time CrossFit Games champion paired up with fellow Australian and current CrossFit Games Team champion, James Newbury, for the Mixed Doubles division.
Toomey-Orr and Newbury were not the only notable CrossFit athletes who took part in the HYROX Melboune race. Fellow PRVN Fitness athletes and couple Jay Crouch and Maddie Sturt competed as a team. Hayley Adams paired up with Andy Mathers and Emily de Rooy, also on the winning team at this year’s CrossFit Games, teamed with Beny Watson.
Of those four teams, Toomey-Orr and Newbury came out on top. In fact, the crossed the finish line in 55:48. The duo finished 2nd in their heat and took 3rd place overall in a very competitive mixed doubles division in Melbourne.
Meg Martin and Nikola Sovljanski won their heat against the CrossFit Games super team with a time of 55:13. However, this time was not quite good enough as they would narrowly finish behind another team from a different heat. Bree Garreffa and Tom Rodgers would also finish with a time of 55:13, but were deemed the champions of the mixed doubles division.
Toomey-Orr and Newbury’s sub-56 minute time was very impressive despite not winning. Their time is inside the top 50 of all-time for the mixed pairs division (likely 47th pending results from the Frankfurt race this weekend).
Jay Crouch and Maddie Sturt were also able eclipse the one-hour mark. The couple finished in 59:36, good for 15th overall and 9th in their age group.
Hayley Adams and Andy Mathers crossed the finish line in 1:00:54 for 24th place overall.
And Emily de Rooy and Beny Watson finished 134th with a time of 1:10:24.
