USAW Releases 2018 IWF World Championship Team Rankings

With the 2018 IWF World Championships coming up in November, the USAW has released the first team rankings based on the new weight categories. The rankings are based on IWF’s ROBI score, IWF’s replacement to the Sinclair coefficient.

Without going into too much detail, the ROBI score is essentially based on each bodyweight category’s world record and can be adjusted immediately following a new record (the Sinclair coefficient was only updated every four years). This is good and bad. It is good as it can reflect more real-time data. It is bad in that a world record set in the months leading up to the Olympic Team qualifier could change the rankings of U.S.-based athletes.

Ultimately, the USAW selection committee selects the team, but the ROBI scores will play a huge, if not the only role, in who is in and who is out.

With that, here are the current rankings as of July 18, 2018.
