The first week of the 2024 CrossFit Open is officially over. The score submission window for 24.1 closed at 8:00pm EST (5:00pm PST) yesterday. The fastest times in the world are Colten Mertens on the men’s side and Mirjam von Rohr on the women’s. All scores are still unofficial as CrossFit will conduct a video review before crowning the 24.1 winners (and awarding them the $2,024 cash price for the top score worldwide).
Mertens posted a blazing time of 5:19, a full 21 seconds ahead of Taylor Self who took 2nd place worldwide. Collin Bosshard had the third fastest time at 5:41. Mertens did the workout at the new CrossFit PRVN facility in Nashville, Tennessee. He has not yet publicly released his 24.1 video.
For the women, Mirjam von Rohr finished with a time of 5:39. Julia Hannaford took 2nd with a time of 5:32 and Alazne Egiazabal finished in 3rd with a time of 5:49.
For those unfamiliar with von Rohr, she has a background in HYROX. She won the 2022 HYROX European Championship in 2022. She was known for her ability on the strength portions of HYROX and was not one of the faster elite runners. As for CrossFit, this is her third season competing in the Open. In 2022 she advanced to Quarterfinals, but fell well short of advancing to Semifinals (she finished 1,355th in Europe).
But unlike Mertens, von Rohr has already posted her video on the Games leaderboard.
As for any surprises on the leaderboard, there is only Games athlete from last year who did not post an elite time. That is Ella Wunger. Wunger is going team this year and is dealing with a stress fracture and is relying on her teammates to advance to Quarterfinals. She posted 21 reps as her score for 24.1.
Wunger is on the C23 CrossFit The Progrm Motion team with Antonia Falt-Kottulinsky, Harrison Ball and Alex Lungren. Jacqueline Dahlstrom’s score for 24.1 was used by the team. Dahlstrom finished in 6:38.
Also, yesterday we shared that Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr did receive a region exemption this year and will now be competing out of the North America East region.
Baylee Rayl Christophel has also changed regions this year. Last year she competed out of North America West. However, this year she will be in North America East.
