Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr has received a region exemption request to compete out of the North America East Semifinal. Toomey-Orr, a citizen of Oceania, is officially listed in the North America East region on the CrossFit Games leaderboard.
In her last competitive season in 2022, Toomey-Orr returned to Australia to compete at Torian Pro, home of the Oceania Semifinal. After not competing last year (although she did the Open and registered in Oceania), it appears she has applied for a region exemption and was approved by CrossFit.
The approval is not a surprise as Tia and her husband, Shane, moved to the United States in 2018. At that time she moved to Cookeville, Tennessee, to train out of CrossFit Mayhem. Then in 2021, she moved several hours west to Nashville where she and the PRVN Fitness team would train out of CrossFit East Nashville.
And now this year, she and Shane have just opened the new PRVN HQ in Nashville.
With Tia competing out of North America East, her worldwide points also move with her (once she is added back to the rankings following Quarterfinals). The move will put Oceania women in jeopardy of earning a fourth qualifying spot to the CrossFit Games, which I outlined how it could be done last month.
Tia did 24.1 at CrossFit PRVN and finished in 6:55. She was judged by Shane.
Tia will now be competing at the Syndicate Crown, home of the North America East Semifinal, on May 31 to June 2. She will be joined by the likes of Emma Lawson, Danielle Brandon, Alexis Raptis and Brooke Wells in Knoxville.
Tickets for the Syndicate Crown are currently on sale.
Tia was on the Coffee Pods & WODs podcast last week where she discussed coming back to competition this season. Here’s the full interview…
