Greg Glassman was interviewed on Julie Foucher’s Pursuing Health podcast where topics mainly focused on CrossFit’s shift to focuses on CrossFit Health. Several times throughout the podcast the conversation shifted to the CrossFit Games. During one of those times, Glassman said that he would put a moratorium on having a title sponsor of the CrossFit Games after the 2020 season.
Reebok is currently the title sponsor of the CrossFit Games. The contract, signed 9 years ago, runs through the 2020 CrossFit Games. During this time, Reebok was given exclusivity when it came to apparel and footwear at the CrossFit Games (until this year). Things were not always rosy between the two parties. CrossFit sued Reebok last year over royalty payments.
And with the contract ending after next season, Glassman told Foucher that he wants to take a break from having a title sponsor of the Games. “All of the sponsorship opportunities change now and I’m looking for a two or three year moratorium on title sponsorship, the highest level…when the Reebok thing is done there is not going to be another shoe company that sits in that position,” commented Glassman. He continued, “We’re done with exclusive contracts. I like where we’re going.”
